The Rossignol Group is proud to announce the launch of On Piste+, an innovative new feature for its On Piste mobile app that propels alpine skiing into the era of AI and advanced performance data and analysis.

Developed in collaboration with CEA-LETI (French technology research center), this technology transforms your smartphone into a powerful sensor for analyzing your skiing technique.

AI and Technical Performance Measurement

On Piste+ functions on a proprietary algorithm using AI to recognize a skier’s skill level. Over 220 runs were performed by instructors from ENSA (French National Ski and Mountaineering School) to build a reliable database across four skill levels (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, Expert). The model then underwent rigorous validation, demonstrating 95% accuracy when assessed by the panel of expert instructors.

On Piste+: From Cutting-Edge R&D to the Consumer Smartphone

The culmination of six-years of collaborative R&D, On Piste+ provides precise and complex activity data via your smartphone’s existing integrated sensors (GPS, Accelerometer, Gyroscope), capturing dozens of data points per second to enable a 3D analysis of skier movement. No connected watch or additional sensor is required.

« Our greatest technical challenge was solving the 3D motion equation with a minimum of measuring systems. We had to innovate to accurately estimate the force exerted for power calculation, and ensure the stability of the measurement, regardless of the phone’s orientation in the skier’s pocket, » explains Manon Rodriguez, Innovation Engineer at Rossignol Group.

Data Tracking to Serve the Sport

Unlike other costly solutions requiring dedicated sensors, On Piste+ is a free feature of the On Piste app (free to download on iOS, Android, and Google Play), allowing skiers to engage in technical mastery that goes beyond traditional data (distance, duration) to include:

Interface de l'application On Piste

  • Interface de l'application On PisteRhythm (number of turns per minute);
  • Power transferred to the skis (in watts);
  • Speed (Km/h);
  • OP+ Score (100-500 score synthesizing Power, Speed, and Rhythm to estimate the skier’s technical level.

The result is a free, fun, and motivating tool that encourages skiing practice and progression.

Get more Watts Challenge

 Throughout the winter season, the On Piste mobile app accompanies Dynastar skiers to take part in connected challenges with friends or family, evaluate their skiing performance (speed, power, etc.) and identify the equipment best suited to their level of skiing within the Speed range. Finishers of the challenge could win a pair of speed skis.
